Wireless carriers and equipment vendors seeking to expand revenues from high-value corporate wireless customers need to better understand the dynamics and drivers of corporate wireless buying decisions and tailor their offerings to effectively meet the unique needs of business customers. During each of the past three years, In-Stat has conducted in-depth studies of this market based on surveys of US corporate wireless decision-makers.
 |
| In our 2005 study, more than 40% of the respondent business wireless decision-makers were senior executives (e.g., president, owner, c-level executive) and an additional 30% were IT or department managers. |
 |
In-Stat’s 2007 Corporate Buying of Wireless Services and Equipment study will explore use of wireless voice and data services within the business environment, as well as the decision-making processes organizations use for choosing and retaining wireless service providers and enterprise wireless contracts (e.g., types, terms).
Survey respondents will be screened to meet the following criteria:
- Wireless decision-makers
- Knowledgeable regarding the decision-making process for wireless services within the organization
- Their companies have selected or plan to select one or more preferred providers of wireless voice services within their organization
- Involved in the selection of cellular or wireless telephone providers for company employees
Quotas will be set to ensure representational data from the following business segments (subject to input from survey sponsors):
- Small Office/Home Office (SOHO, with 1 to 4 employees)
- Small Businesses (with 5 to 99 employees)
- Mid-size Businesses (with 100 to 999 employees), and
- Enterprises, or Large Businesses (with 1,000 or more employees)
Some of the key corporate wireless topics that will be explored include the following:
- Per-company average wireless spending
- With breakdowns for equipment versus services
- Within services, voice versus data
- Liability for bill payment and trends in corporate liability
- Primary and secondary wireless providers used
- Satisfaction and intentions to churn
- Which carriers gained or lost ground, by company size, over the past two years
- Market share estimates for wireless carriers in the business market
- Demand for bundled wireline and wireless services
- Capabilities and services that decision-makers seek when selecting wireless providers
- Use of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and key SLA terms for both voice and data
- Demand for wireless data (e.g., wireless e-mail, wireless chat, Location-Based Services (LBS), enterprise applications)
- How organizations develop and manage wide-area wireless applications
- Use of managed communications services and wireless integrators
- Access devices (e.g., wireless phones, PDAs, SmartPhones, wireless WAN PC cards), and the purchase process for these devices
Using data from the 2003, 2004, and 2005 corporate buying surveys, year-to-year trends will be included for selected topics. In-Stat will also supplement this research with data and insights from our Business Mobility Surveys, conducted separately from the corporate buying survey at the heart of this study.
 |
| While In-Stat has proposed the topics, sponsors of the multi-client study will have the ability to drive the content of the research through topic selection and focus, as well as input into the questionnaire. The 2005 questionnaire, which will provide the starting point for the survey, is available upon request. |
