How To Remove Skype For Business On Windows

Method 1: Remove Skype for Business through the Control Panel

This is one of the easiest ways to remove it from your computer, but you must have a  standalone version of the program. It must not have come as a part of the Microsoft Office package, neither should it be Office 365 Skype for Business. If it’s any of these, you won’t even see it in the Control Panel. The uninstalling can only work if it is a standalone version. Now, if yours is a standalone version, then follow the steps below to uninstall it:

Step 1. To reveal the WinX Menu, just hit the Windows Logo key + X altogether, or you can simply Right-click on the Start Menu button

Step 2. Inside the WinX Menu, scroll down and click on Control Panel

Step 3. Now that you are inside the Control Panel menu, under the Programs section, click on Uninstall a program

Step 4. Wait for a while, for the list of installed programs to come up.

Step 5. Select Skype for Business, and click on it

Step 6. Click Uninstall

Step 7. Confirm if you are requested to, and wait for the uninstallation process to finish running.

Step 8. Once it’s done, click on Close

Method 2: Remove Skype for Business  from your Office installation

If Skype for Business came included as part of the package of a Microsoft Office suite of applications, then you can uninstall Skype for Business by simply getting rid of that particular application, but the Office installation must be MSI-based, that is those Office installations that were done using a Microsoft Installer, if that is so, then you can be able to uninstall Skype for Business from Microsoft Office 2016. Follow the steps below:

Step 1. A usual, Open the WinX Menu by right-clicking on the start menu, or by simply pressing Windows Logo key + X altogether.

Step 2. In the WinX Menu, click on Control Panel

Step 3. With the Control Panel set on category view, scroll down and click on Uninstall a program, you will find it under the Program section

Step 4. A comprehensive list of all the installed program on your computer will take a while to come up, so you will have to wait.

Step 5. When it’s done, check for Microsoft Office on the list and click on it to select.

Step 6. Click Change

Step 7. A new window will show, that is the Installation Options window. Locate Skype for Business on the list (some versions of Microsoft Office call it Microsoft Lync).

Step 8. Click on the dropdown button close to it, and then click on Not Available.

Step 9. Click continue and complete the rest of the process

Step 10. Close the Control Panel once the Wizard is done running

That is it, check if the Skype for Business has been removed.

Method 3: Stop it from starting automatically

Most people want to decide when and when not to start Skype for Business, and not to have it start automatically even when they don’t have a need for it. They don’t really want to uninstall it, but just to want it popping up at odd times. In this case, the best thing is to stop it from starting automatically. Follow the steps below to stop it from starting automatically.

Step 1. Run Skype

Step 2. Click on the gear icon on the top

Step 3. Hover your cursor over Tools and click on Options

Step 4. Navigate to the left pane of the window, and click on Personal

Step 5. Now scroll to the right pane of the window and you will see both the Automatically start the app when I log on to Windows and Start the app in the foreground options. Uncheck all the boxes

Step 6. Click Ok

Step 7. Once again, click on the gear icon, and hover your cursor over File.

Step 8. Click on exit to shutdown Skype for Business

And that is it. It won’t be starting automatically again

Method 4: Remove Microsoft Office

If your Skype for Business came as part of Microsoft Office, that means it’s not a standalone version and neither is it an MSI-based installation, and you don’t mind getting rid of your whole Microsoft Office just to uninstall Skype for Business, then you can try this method. This process will lead to uninstalling Microsoft Office.

Step 1. Open the Control Panel

Step 2. With the Control panel on category view, click on Uninstall a program (You will find it under programs)

Step 3. Locate Microsoft Office and click on it to select it.

Step 4. Click on Uninstall

The uninstallation wizard will now take a little time to run, kindly follow the onscreen instructions to successfully finish the uninstallation of Skype for Business.
