Designated Survivor has so far released three seasons, and 53 episodes altogether. The first TV station to air the show was the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) before handing over to Netflix from the 3rd season to continue with the broadcast. The storyline of the show is based on a political scenario were the United States Congress members and the council members are faced with a political turmoil, with a primary focus on President Thomas Kirkman. The storyline of the Designated Survivor is a typical example of the global political scenario the world is currently facing. The third season is all about the ordeal of the president, in his quest to retain his mandate and return his administration for another term, against all odds. Is Designated Survivor Season 4 canceled?
This is not the first time the show has been canceled. In May 2018, after two successful seasons, the show was terminated by the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as a result of the decline in rating and high turnover of showrunners. Another suspected reason for the cancellation was rumored to because of the plan to move the production of the show from Toronto to Los Angeles, which might skyrocket the cost of production.
Luckily for everyone, on September 5, 2018, Netflix indicated interest to premiere the third season of the show. This got the fans jubilating, but that didn’t last for long. In July 2019, Netflix canceled the show, meaning that the fourth season will not be premiered.
Will There Be A Season 4 ?
The fans of Designated Survivor have been waiting earnestly for the release of the Designated Survivor 4 season since the sudden cancellation of the blockbuster movie by Netflix. About when it’s returning, no one can say for sure.
According to an official statement released by Netflix, and it states:
“We are proud to have offered fans the third season of Designated Survivor and will continue to carry all three seasons for years to come.
“We’re especially thankful to star and executive producer Kiefer Sutherland, who brought passion, dedication and unforgettable performance as President Kirkman”
“We’re also grateful to showrunner/executive producer Neal Baer for his guiding vision and a steady hand, creator/executive producer David Guggenheim and EPs Mark Gordon, Suzan Bymel, Simon Kinberg, Aditya Sood and Peter Noah along with the cast and crew who crafted a compelling and satisfying final season,” reported US publication Deadline”.
Judging from the discussion Simon Mayo had with Sutherland on the Scala Radio show, it was very clear that the modalities of the contract they had were kind of complicated and different from network television to Netflix. A whole lot of other actors featured in the show were not booked, and they accepted other jobs.
Furthermore according to Kiefer Sutherland “So I think doing a season four would be very complicated and difficult, and the truth is, I loved making that show – I also miss aspects of what I enjoyed about 24, which was something that was really visceral and physical, and so I think its time for us all to go and find something new to do.”
What To Expect In The Designated Survivor 4 Plot
Season three ended with no suspense. In the end, Myles Lee and Lorraine were apprehended for working against the campaign of Kirkman. Of course, Kirkman got re-elected for a second term, and all seem to be going well again. We are actually left with no expectation, but they certainly no how to bring a new into the next season, so we keep our fingers crossed. It’s very certain that great authority comes with great responsibility, and there will always be people who are fighting to take away the authority from you, so definitely there will be challenges, even greater ones. So the question is how will president Kirkman deal with the situation as it unfolds. Is he going to be kicked out? How is he going to survive the drama in the Designated Survivor 4?

Who Are We Expecting To See On The Screen In The Coming Episodes
Thomas Kirkman who is the main actor will definitely return. He played the character of Kiefer Sutherland, whom the story revolved around. Of course many other casts such as Anthony Edwards who featured as Mars, Elena Tovar who featured as Isabel, Jamie Clayton who featured as Sasha, Kal Penn who featured as Seth are all going to appear again.
